Microcredentials Strands

Our microcredential courses are grouped into strands (or themes) of teaching areas. To get a certificate, you can either choose a specialist area and take five courses from one strand or diversify and take one microcredential from each strand (making up a total of five).

Teaching
Skills

This strand covers the practical, everyday skills that shape how well a lesson works, from what happens when you plan it to how you handle language and learner responses in the moment. Each course builds a distinct skill you can put into practice in your very next class.

Teaching
Teens

Teenagers bring their own dynamics to the classroom, and this strand equips you to work with that rather than against it. Across these courses, you’ll build the skills to keep lessons calm, focused, and genuinely engaging for this age group.

Inclusive Education
and Learner Wellbeing

Every classroom holds a mix of backgrounds, identities, and ways of learning, and this strand helps you respond to that mix with confidence. Across these courses, you’ll explore practical approaches to removing barriers, supporting wellbeing, and helping every learner thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Microcredentials different from a full IH OTTI course?

Microcredentials are a very different format. They are shorter, completely self-access and there is no cohort or tutor. They are very flexible and the learning materials and assessment mean you can truly study them on-the-go. They focus on more specific areas of teaching rather than a broader area such as a whole age group or a job role. They are suitable for new and experienced teachers who want to sharpen their skills in one area.

Are there any live sessions?
